Daily Reading Rules and Recommendations

***This is important information and a link back to it will appear as a sidebar  for easy reference.***

The reading times given to the students each night are minimums and they are encouraged to read more than what is written. Students may read anything they like during their daily reading homework. This includes chapter books, comic books, magazines, and newspapers. The point is that they read and enjoy what they are reading. Reading should not be a chore. We want them to love books.
Practicing reading leads to reading better and writing better. Please talk with your child about what they have read each day. Who, What, When, Where, and Why questions are very helpful. Especially Why, as it makes them think, reason, and explain.
If your child has trouble reading fluently, that is reading aloud and sounding natural, please have them spend some of the assigned reading time reading aloud to someone. Again, practice will help fluency, and strong fluency helps comprehension.
